Alaskan Malamute
The malamute originated from Alaska, where it was originally used by the Mahlemuit people for hunting polar bears, seals and hauling. The dogs had to work hard for their food and shelter, and would often fight amongst themselves for scraps to eat in order to survive.
The Alaskan Malamute gained American Kennel Club recognition in 1935.
